I have always had an interest in the human body for as long as I can remember. It likely started from a sporting and performance aspect and reading into how athletes can reach peak performance levels. This has evolved into my career now with more of a focus on the healthcare side of the sciences. Equally I have become fascinated by the work that companies in the life science space are carrying out.
I am very active on LinkedIn and try to speak with as many people in the scientific industry who are working “at the coal face” so to speak, there are some hugely insightful people in this world. Another element is actually getting out and meeting with clients, be it at their offices or travelling to conferences and exhibitions across the globe.
At risk of sounding cheesy it is really nice having a small impact on the future of healthcare. It is nice when you see a company you have recruited for get mentioned positively in the media for having played a part in a new drug or treatment being developed or perhaps they have released a new piece of equipment that will down the line play a huge impact in this. Knowing that I have played a part, albeit small, is very rewarding
Never stop learning. It is something I pride myself on but something I have seen people in the industry occasionally go away from. You can never know everything but you should always strive to learn more.
Having worked for a couple of companies prior to Kapia and speaking with colleagues (ex and current) I can confidently say that our network is genuinely unrivalled. When we get a new recruitment assignment from a client there are always 5-10 candidate names that immediately get mentioned by colleagues and this gives us a upper hand on our competition. This hasn’t happened by accident but rather by years and years of hard-work establishing our personal brands.
Meeting in person is important. We try to get to an exhibition or conference once a quarter. This helps with understanding market knowledge and also helps you get your face out there and promote yourself to potential hiring managers and candidates in the industry. Face-to-face has no substitute.
