At Kapia, we do things differently and being different isn’t a bad thing if it aides in your success.
Our Story
Our founders, directors and the majority of our staff have worked in previous executive level search environments. Having similar experiences we decided to combine the best of all of them and add our individuality into the mix. We’re a company that’s truly built around the ideology that “one shoe does not fit all”. We value our markets and take pride in servicing the medical, science and digital healthcare markets. We place emphasis on patience and consultation rather than KPIs and targets. Whilst these are sometimes important to a company's success they’re not imperative to a customers satisfaction.
The term Kapia has two meanings; 1) a term used in the Balkan countries for a gate or gateway 2) The meeting point in an intersection of a bridge – typically where merchants and traders did business. The foundations of our business is to connect people together, to bring ideas and goals to life through our network essentially the bridges that we’ve built.
Our Values:
- Customer Centric - Unapologetically Bold - Committed to Relationships - Working as one

A history of Kapia
THE KAPIA BRIDGE
Why Kapia?
We derive our name from the Kapia Bridge, also known as the Mehmed Pasha Sokolović Bridge. It is a historic Ottoman bridge located in the city of Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It holds immense cultural and architectural significance and has a fascinating history dating back several centuries.
Construction of the Kapia Bridge began in 1571 under the patronage of Grand Vizier Mehmed Pasha Sokolović, who was born in the nearby village of Sokolovići. The bridge was designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Sinan, who was responsible for numerous architectural masterpieces across the empire. The Kapia Bridge spans the Drina River and served as a crucial link in the region, connecting the Bosnian territories with the rest of the Ottoman Empire. It played a vital role in trade and transportation, facilitating the movement of goods, people, and military forces. The bridge's construction was an engineering marvel of its time, utilising advanced techniques and materials. It is a prime example of Ottoman architecture and showcases the distinctive characteristics of the era, such as pointed arches, stone masonry, and intricate decorations. The bridge's elegant design and sturdy construction have allowed it to withstand the test of time.
Throughout its history, the Kapia Bridge has witnessed various significant events. During the Ottoman period, it served as a symbol of Ottoman power and influence in the region. It became an essential part of Višegrad's identity and played a role in shaping the city's development. In more recent history, the bridge gained international attention with the publication of the renowned novel "The Bridge on the Drina" by Yugoslav writer Ivo Andrić. The novel, which won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961, revolves around the bridge and its impact on the local community across different historical periods. Unfortunately, like many structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Kapia Bridge suffered severe damage during the Bosnian War (1992-1995). The bridge was targeted and partially destroyed by Bosnian Serb forces, causing a significant loss to the cultural heritage of the region.
Following the war, the reconstruction of the Kapia Bridge became a symbol of post-war reconciliation and restoration efforts. The international community, along with local authorities and organizations, undertook a collaborative initiative to rebuild the bridge and preserve its historical significance. In 2007, the reconstructed Kapia Bridge was officially opened to the public, allowing visitors to once again admire its beauty and experience its historical aura. Today, it stands as a testament to the resilience of the Bosnian people and serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that Bosnia and Herzegovina possess. The Kapia Bridge has become a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world who come to admire its architectural beauty and learn about its historical significance. It is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, further highlighting its importance as a cultural and historical treasure.
The bridge continues to be an iconic symbol of Višegrad, evoking a sense of pride and connection to the region's past. It stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Ottoman architecture and the resilience of the Bosnian people in preserving their cultural heritage. Kapia clearly derives its name from the historic Kapia Bridge in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Just as the bridge served as a vital link connecting different regions, Kapia serves as a bridge connecting job seekers and employers, facilitating the flow of talent and opportunities. Similar to the bridge's role in trade and transportation, Kapia plays a crucial role in the exchange of skills and expertise within the job market. It acts as a pathway, connecting individuals with the right job opportunities and helping them navigate their career paths effectively.
Much like the Kapia Bridge's architectural beauty and sturdy construction, Kapia strives for excellence in its services. It aims to build a solid foundation for both job seekers and employers, offering a reliable and robust platform that bridges the gap between talent and employment. Just as the Kapia Bridge was a symbol of Ottoman power and influence, Kapia seeks to empower individuals by connecting them with meaningful employment opportunities. It recognises the importance of employment in personal growth, economic stability, and societal development. Moreover, the reconstruction of the Kapia Bridge after its partial destruction during the Bosnian War can be seen as a metaphor for the resilience and determination displayed by both the bridge and us as a business. Both entities have overcome challenges and setbacks, emerging stronger and more committed to their respective missions.
Furthermore, the novel "The Bridge on the Drina" by Ivo Andrić serves as a literary parallel to the work of Kapia, the recruitment company. The novel explores the historical significance of the bridge and the impact it has on the community over time. Similarly, we strive to understand the unique needs of both job seekers and employers, building bridges of understanding and creating successful matches between them. The two Kapias share a symbolic connection. They both serve as bridges, connecting different entities and facilitating the exchange of goods, opportunities, and skills. Both embody strength, resilience, and a commitment to building a better future.
